At
left is Gardner Community Action Committee Director Jandris with
Billy C., morning man on local Gardner FM radio station 99.9, the
Eagle. The radio station was presented with a Certificate of
Appreciation. With a week-long radio broadcast made possible
by local sponsors, the radio station broadcast from 9 in the morning
to 9 at night all week long. Hundreds of food items were
collected and at last report, the radio station raised just short of
$5,000.
Billy C. closed his broadcast Friday
April 14th with a huge thank you to members of the community.
He thanked as many people as possible by name, saying he was sorry
if he forgot anyone. |
| |
|
| Billy C. was
overwhelmed and at times visibly emotional as businesses and
individuals responded in droves to his on-air pleas to
assist those less fortunate. Many times he
pointed out that cash donations to the Gardner Community
Action Committee actually can be used to purchase 7 times
that much food from the Worcester Food Bank.
Businesses responded with checks from $20 to $500 and with
donations of food, sometimes several cases of it!
Individuals cleaned out piggy banks and opened their
wallets and stopped by with food items.

Eagle personality Derek Drowne, Hannaford Store Manager
Ryan, the Eagle's Billy C, and Hannaford employees.
The Hannaford parking lot was a continuing and extremely
visible living billboard for radio station 99.9 FM the
Eagle's success in attaining a huge audience in the Gardner
community. For 5 days, people who listened on
the air pulled in and made a huge difference for those in
need in the local community. The
Hannaford store and the radio station both expressed a
desire to repeat the event next year. Everyone
was all smiles after a week of hard work. The Gardner
Community Action Committee needs help all year to assist the
less fortunate members of our community. To
donate food or money, contact the Gardner C.A.C. at
(978) 632-8700 You can mail donations to Gardner
Community Action Committee, 294 Pleasant Street, Gardner, MA
01440. To listen to the Eagle, tune your FM
radio to 99.9 and enjoy! |
